It was a great weekend for our school competitors at the National Community Games Finals in Athlone. Ronan (Rang 1) did us proud in the swimming events in what we know this will be first of many community games for him.
Our chess team had an amazingly successful weekend! On saturday there was a very tough fought match against Ulster Champions Monaghan. Our team of Brandon, Jordan, Andrei, Mustakim, Muhtarim, Nuaim and Daniel played really well and made it to the final. We all returned hopefully on Sunday to compete in the final against Connaught champions Sligo. In a very tense and exciting final match the Lucan East team played brilliantly to win 3 – 1 with one draw. It was then off to enjoy the funfair and the atmosphere of the national finals.
The team were presented with their medals at the presentation area and a special shield which will be kept in the school for the year was presented to Jordan on behalf of the team. A big thank you to Simon who started a chess club in the school last year and coached the team so well all year. Thanks to John McMahon from Lucan Chess Club for popping in the help out prior to the National finals too. The team also had great support from their parents who drove to all the preliminary round matches and finals. Well done to all involved we are proud of you all.
