School History

History of Lucan East ETNS

Lucan East E.T.N.S. was the fifth Educate Together School to open in Lucan. The school opened on September 1st, 2008 in a purpose built school building. The school was set up to cater for the increasing population in the area and the demand for a new school was evident. Eddie Fox was appointed Principal and in our first year we had 88 students, 7 teachers, 1 SNA and a part time secretary. The minister for education Batt O’ Keefe came to officially open the school and we made the front page of the Irish Independent.

In our second year numbers in the school grew to 160, rising to 227 in our third year and 295 in our fourth. Our parent/teacher association was set up and have been a constant support to the school ever since. Construction work began in March 2010 on the new extension and was completed in August of 2011, in time to welcome back staff and students after the summer holidays.

In December 2017, Eddie left us for pastures new and we welcomed Grainne McManus as our new principal. We now have over 400 pupils including two classes for children with autism. The staff has also grown with 33 teachers, 13 SNA’s, 2 full time cleaners, 1 full time secretary and a part time caretaker. In April 2025, the Department of Education moved us into a brand new building on Thomas Omer Way. We are looking ahead to a bright future in our new home where we hope to serve all the children of our community and help them to achieve their full potential.
