Friday News

It has been a great first month here at Lucan East ETNS. We have lots of great events coming up which begin with our mural painting. Many thanks to Linda Jane, Niamh and GrĂ¡inne for all the preparatory work on the mural. The recent AGM of the parent teacher association was a great success and it was great to see so many supporters of the school. Over 50 families have signed up to our book club and many thanks to the PTA for all their hard work in getting this off the ground.

We are also looking at ways to lessen the amount of traffic in the morning which will involve senior infants lining up with the main school in the morning. We hope to start this on Monday 15th of September. We will write to the parents of senior infants so that all families will be clear on how everything works.

We have started Olympic handball coaching with 3rd and 4th class and will be taking part in tournaments against other schools in the coming year.

Parent’s classes have started in the school. There is a beginners English class and and a sewing and craft class. As Carol writes in her piece about the class it is a great way to get involved in the school. Maths for fun will take place in first class starting next week . Swimming will begin in second class Romania for 12 weeks starting next Tuesday. Margaret has set up a maths problem of the week and the children have been busy each week solving it in order to be crowned brainiac.

Good attendance will be rewarded through the best class attendance each month. This month the best class attendance in the school was Senior Infants India class with 99% attendance. Well done to everybody in India class and all their families. We are also doing a class competition for Walk on Wednesday with lots of prizes for the winning class. We are looking into the reasons behind walking to school from traffic management to environmental issues. All our extra curricular activities are up and running and it is great to see children enjoying areas as diverse as Gardening, sport, guitar, Gaeilge and of course our homework clubs. Our annual book day

Our school council has its monthly meeting next Tuesday. The school council is the voice of the children in our school and meets regularly to discuss areas of interest within the school. I hope this post has given you a flavour of the great work that is going on in the school. I would like to thanks the wonderful children, staff and parents who have made a great start to the year.
