Lucan East ETNS will be supporting Irish 400 metre champion Joanne Cuddihy as she prepares for the Olympics next year. Joanne will be giving us an insight into what it takes to be an olympic athlete and she will skype our older classes in term 2. You can see Joanne on the far left. She is a doctor and went to UCD. Here is a short message from Joanne to all the boys and girls from Lucan East ETNS:
“I took up athletics in school when I was about 14. I used to run a lot in primary school too, and I especially enjoyed racing against the boys in my class! But apart from the community games I didn’t run any proper races until secondary school.
I now train and work part time in Australia. The sunshine makes it easier to train outdoors. I usually train six days a week, for about three or four hours a day. I’ve been racing internationally for about 11 years now. I’m 27 and this will probably be my last year racing.
I run the 400m and the 4x400m relay. I’ll come back to Europe in May and start to prepare for the Olympic games in London in August which I hope I will qualify for.”
We will be supporting Joanne and all the other Olympic athletes next year in London
