There is lots of hard work going on in the school this week. Today we welcomed back Gráinne to the school. Gráinne is now principal of Scoil Cliodhna in Cork. We had a lovely time with Gráinne who misses us as much as we miss her. Our two schools will always be in touch as will Gráinne with the many friends she has forged here at Lucan East.
Next week is science week and an engineer will be visiting the school for the older classes among lots of other . I would like to congratulate Jennifer who won the photograph competition. You can see the winning entry on twitter. The votes for the parent rep. on the board of management will be counted on monday after school. Ballot papers can be left in the hall. Well done to our boys football team who won their football match yesterday. Second class and our outreach classes are having a great time swimming this term. Linda will be looking after our school and class libraries this year. We are about to invest in a significant amount of books which will ensure that the great strides we have made in literacy throughout the school will be developed.
This year we are also working on the Irish language in the school. Some of the things we are doing are:
- A buddy scheme between Rang 6 and Junior Infants which will focus on teaching Irish games and language from older to younger
- Our weekly assembly will focus on the language with an Irish speaker of the week nominated in each class.
- We will have students welcoming all our families in Irish every maidin
- Rebecca our HSCl is going to offer short courses in Irish and helping with homework for parents
- Every child in the school will learn the national anthem
- We are going to focus on speaking Irish in our school with an emphasis on having a converstion.
The standard of the children is excellent and they have made a great start to our initiative.
It is great to see all our budding hurlers practicing outside the school in the morning before lessons start and you can see their level of skill develop. Thanks to Niall and Tom for all their work on this. Our handball players will shortly be taking part in a tournament in Leixlip.
Remember you can sign up on the front page of our website for our weekly newsletter which will come every friday to your email. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter @lucaneastet. The parent portal has lots of information about your child as well. Parent teacher meetings take place on the 17th and 18th of November for all classes except Junior Infants and 4th class Australia who will have their meetings in the new year.
Have a great weekend everyone and thank you all for your continued support,
Beir Bua,
Eddie
