It has been another busy week at Lucan East. As principal it is always a pleasure to spend time in lots of classes around the school. It is great to see all the parents in first class Chile so involved in our maths for fun scheme. This year we are going for our active flag and Tom and Caroline are working hard on this. The active school scheme aims to increase the amount of time the children are active and to promote sport and healthy living both inside and outside school. Well done to our fifth class girls who did us proud in Leixlip last week at the olympic handball competition. It was great to see such a level of teamwork. We are also setting up a football team in the school which will be a great addition to our sports involvement.
This sunday 5th and 6th class head for the City West conference centre to take part in the Peace Proms which is a cross border choir gathering. They have been rehearsing really hard are all excited about the event. A report will follow next week. All the students have come up with new years resolutions which we have compiled into a book and is available to view at the entrance to the school.
This year all the children from first class upwards have been taking part in book clubs during literacy time. I had a great time in Spain class today discussing and engaging with the children and their books. Ask your child about the books that they are reading and I would encourage every family to make the library (beside Superquinn) part of their weekly routine. Ireland class will be going on their first big trip outside the school in the next few weeks and have been working really hard with their teacher Niamh and Lucy and Anita.
We are currently in the process of offering out our Junior Infant places for the 2014/2015 academic year. If any parents have any questions about the process please don’t hesitate to contact Lesley or myself in the office.
The Garda band will be visiting the school during Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language week) and the PTA have lots of other fun events planned for this term.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Beir Bua,
Eddie (Príomhoide)
