Dia Dhaoibh,
I hope everyone is keeping well and enjoying the sunshine today.
Here’s a little news about what’s going on in Lucan East at the moment:
Community Gardaí – Be Safe Online Workshop
On Monday two of our local Community Gardaí, Noreen and Tom, came in to do a workshop on being safe online with all 5th and 6th class pupils. The talk was extremely informative and interesting for the children. Following this, 5th and 6th class will be making posters to encourage online safety to put up around the school. We look forward to seeing their pieces and finding out who Garda Noreen and Garda Tom pick as winners (closing date 10th February).
Soccer Sisters
Soccer Sisters is back in full swing in the school. Stephen Rice from the FAI comes every week to train our girls’ football team. Some of our past pupils are fantastic football players and we hope that this will produce more in the future. A big thank you to Stephen and the FAI for their continuing work in our school!
Cycling Safety Ireland
Our Cycling Safety sessions will begin with 5th class next Monday. This is a great opportunity for the children to improve their cycling skills, learn more about cycling safety and get active!
6th Class Charity Bake Sale
6th class will be holding their annual bake sale next Weds 22nd January for charity (to be decided). All baked goods will cost 50 cent or €1. This is a great opportunity for our students to give back. If you could send 50 cent or €1 in with your child on Wednesday towards this collection that would be fantastic! We’ll keep you posted on how much is collected and what charity 6th class decide to donate it to.
Swimming
2nd Class (Finland) are coming to the end of their 10 weeks of swimming. Both 2nd classes have really enjoyed these lessons. It’s great that all children get an opportunity to go swimming with their classmates and improve their swimming skills in school.
Tiny Ensemble Teacher-Artist Partnership 2020
South Dublin County Council are funding an arts project in Junior Infants (Portugal class) which started this week. It is call the ‘Tiny Ensemble Teacher Artist Partnership’ which is being coordinated by Margaret Callan from Garbo Productions. We are delighted to have Margaret back working with our students and will keep you posted on the progress of this artistic project.
Winter Plays
Just a reminder that our winter plays are up on Vimeo. The links to each show are on the school twitter account and the password was texted to all parents over the winter holidays. It might be nice for the children to see their own class plays and to show family and friends.
Díoscó Glas
The PTA are planning a Díoscó Glas to wrap up our annual Seachtain na Gaeilge on Friday 13th March. The children love the school discos and we will definitely have full use of the hall by then so it seemed like the perfect timing for our next event. We will give you more information about this closer to the time.
For more information and school news keep an eye on our school twitter account https://twitter.com/lucaneastet .
Hopefully the weather will stay dry this weekend and that it’s a good one for you all.
See you all next week.
Le buíochas,
Gráinne
