We are very glad that Lucan East ETNS is open for business for our students this January. Despite this there have been a lot of Covid cases in the school in the last 2 weeks (45 in total) – more than we’ve ever had before. We really appreciate the efforts parents/guardians are putting in to follow the guidelines regarding antigen testing. We are also very grateful to parents/guardians for keeping us informed when their child(ren) test positive. Thank you all.
HEPA filters
The school has purchased 18 HEPA filters – one for each class. These are set up and working in every room and we hope that this added measure helps in some way.
GAA in Lucan East
Luckily, we have some coaches from Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club and Gaeil Óga GAA Club doing training with our students every Tuesday. Ailbhe from Gaeil Óga has been doing weekly sessions with 5th and 6th classes and Alan from Lucan Sarsfields has been doing weekly training with Senior Infants and 1st Classes. Time permitting, we hope that other classes in the school will have an opportunity to work with these coaches before the end of this school year.
If you would like to bring your child(ren) to GAA training outside of school please see the flyer below. The GAA training sessions are free, they are always brilliantly organised and are highly enjoyable for children and I would strongly encourage you to give it a try!
The girls and boys GAA teams are also back up and running in Lucan East. Any boys and girls from 5th and 6th class who want to play are training every Friday in preparation for the Cumann na mBunscoil competition which will be starting again soon. We wish all of our students the very best of luck in their upcoming matches!
Cycle Safely for 5th Class
5th class will be starting their Cycle Safely lessons next week. This happens every year in 5th class for all 5th class pupils. During these lessons all children cycle bikes every week. Some children learn how to cycle for the first time. The students also learn about road safety, being safe while cycling in general and they practice these skills every week for 7 weeks. There is always great feedback from the students and we are delighted that they will be happening again this week.
Anti-Bullying Workshops
This week we welcomed Patrick Courtney from ‘Antibullying and Mediation Services’ to the school. Patrick did Anti-Bullying workshops with our 4th and 5th classes. The children and teachers found the sessions very thought provoking and effective and we look forward to welcoming Patrick back to the school again in the future.
Swimming
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant of €1500 towards our swimming lessons for 2nd class students from Swim Ireland and South Dublin County Council. It’s great that our students are getting the opportunity to learn this essential life skill by participating in swimming lessons at school and the 2nd class children cannot wait for them to start in Term 3.
EMAILS ONLY
As a result of all of the correspondence we have been sending lately regarding Covid we have decided that ALL CORRESPONDENCE will be sent via EMAIL ONLY going forward. This will make our communication system more streamlined and easier from a management and parent perspective as there is only one platform to keep an eye on. In addition to this it will save the school approx €1800 per annum as the texts cost the school money.
Please keep an eye on your email for correspondence from the school going forward.
