This week our students had the pleasure of playing under our new astro cover which was installed 2 weeks ago. This is a great asset to the school while our PE hall is out of use. It’s fantastic that the children can play outdoors and get fresh air and exercise every day regardless of the weather.
A big thank you to Carambola and the Board of Management for supporting our endeavours to get this structure installed. We are one of only a few schools in the country who are lucky enough to have such an amenity.
6th Class Charity Fundraisers
Our Super 6th Class Students have been working hard to raise money for their chosen charity – the Jack and Jill Foundation. They have two fundraisers going on simultaneously in order to raise funds – Soap Surprise and the Teacher Car Wash.
Soap Surprise – 6th class students made their own soaps with small toys inside to encourage younger children to wash their hands at a critical time. They have been selling these soaps to younger students in the school for €2 each. This has been a huge success. They have half of their stock sold already and I have no doubt they will have the rest of it sold in no time.
Staff Car Wash – Today in the middle of the pouring rain 6th class did a staff car wash drive. They charged the teachers €10 to wash their cars for them. The teachers were delighted and the students did a fabulous job and despite the horrible weather conditions I think they really enjoyed themselves.
Shadow Puppet Theatre with Garbo Theatre Company
Some of our students from Ghana Class had the pleasure of partaking in a Shadow Puppet Workshop this week. This was delivered by one of our past parents Margaret from @GarboTheatreCo who taught the children how to make their own shadow puppets and inspired them to create their own Shadow Puppet Theatre Play! Ghana Class had an amazing time working with Margaret and were very proud of their production! A huge thank you to Margaret. Our school has benefitted massively from her projects and productions over the years and we are very lucky to still be connected with her Theatre Company.
That’s all our news for this week. The next few weeks are going to busy so watch this space to keep up to date with Life in Lucan East!
