The purpose of the Club is to enable members to improve their speaking skills and to gain confidence to express their ideas clearly and assertively, something, which will stand to them for the rest of their lives. Members become better listeners, thinkers and speakers. Members can also develop leadership skills by serving on the committee and by motivating, managing and leading the club.
There are various roles assigned to members at each meeting, some major and some minor but all important. The highlight of any meeting is the prepared speeches by the members who have volunteered that evening. Every speaker is assigned an Evaluator who points out the speech’s strengths and offers suggestions for its improvement. In this way, speakers can monitor their own progress and improve their performance. Experienced Toastmasters are available to act as Mentors for new members.
At each of the meetings there is also an opportunity for “impromptu” speeches during the “Table Topics” session. Toastmaster meetings do not involve either classes or formal training. Members learn by using the Toastmaster educational material and by their active participation at each meeting.
By joining Clondalkin Toastmasters and participating in the Club meetings, you will be investing your time and effort in developing your confidence and your ability to speak in public.
