We are coming to the end of a busy and enjoyable term 2 in Lucan East. There has been so much going on, a big thank you must go out to all our parents who took part in the activities.
To start off the term we celebrated Intercultural day, the whole school had great fun dressing in traditional clothing and enjoying the food prepared by parents from so many countries, we could have eaten for days! We had amazing displays and music from Fermata School of Music.
As part of the CLOVER project our Junior Infants all received free books from South Dublin County Council Library service with an activity pack from HSCL/ Lucan East. Parents of Junior Infants were invited to their child’s classroom to read stories and this week we all visited Lucan library and met Maeve the librarian who read a story and gave all the children another free book! The Junior Infants had a wonderful time, the library is a brilliant free resource we have in our community and Lucan library has lots of free events for children over the holidays.
Senior Infants have been borrowing books from the Bedtime Reading Library, A really big thank you to Meabh and Anna for facilitating this for all the senior infants. Also this term, Cuba and Germany class have enjoyed their parents coming in to their classroom on Thursdays and having lots of fun in Maths.
!st, 2nd and 3rd classes have also had lots of parents in class, playing Maths games. Proving that Maths is Fun!
Yoga for parents has come to an end and our next course for term 3 will be gardening. These courses are provided by the Education and Training Board (ETB) and take place here in Lucan East. If you are interested in joining the gardening course you can send me an email. Intermediate English, also provided by the ETB will continue into term 3.
Our PTA have been busy as usual. This year they are fundraising for Lego robotics for our school. They have organised a very successful and fun term 2 Disco, they are running the book savings scheme, they are also planning the next big fundraiser… a clothing collection after the Easter holidays. Which will give us all a chance to do the spring clean! All our parents are part of the parents association. You can chat to me or a committee member if you would like to help out in some way. The PTA are an invaluable part of our school community, helping out with our many events and fundraising to buy much needed equipment and resources. Thanks PTA.
Another thank you to the parents who helped Niall and Margaret in the school garden, it looks great and each class now has their own patch to plant in. We look forward to seeing lots of things growing there in term 3.
There will be lots of ways for parents to get involved in school activities in term 3. From PTA fundraising, school disco, gardening classes, 6th class coffee morning and transfer talk, in class activities and wow parents walking group. We also hope to organise a careers day for our 6th class students with parents from the school discussing their careers. There will be lots of school tours so if you would like to help out on these please remember to fill in your garda vetting form as soon as possible.
Check out the school website & twitter account for information and photo’s of all the above events.
Hope you all enjoy the break,
