Hi to everyone and a very happy 2019!
Last Friday at assembly we gave out some special attendance awards. Some children came to school every single day since the start of the school year started in September and they were rewarded with a special attendance medal. Huge congratulations to all who received a medal and very well done on coming to school every day!
We had two amazing days of winter concerts back in December and the quality of the performances was superb! It was great to see such a strong parent turnout and thank you for all the messages of congratulations and thanks that you asked me to pass on to our teachers and SNAs. Everyone worked really hard to get the shows ready and the hard work really paid off on the day. The recordings are now available on the Lucan East Twitter account and the passwords are available from Lesley in the office.
As usual the Lucan East ETNS community was busy this week having lots of new adventures and learning lots of new things:
Finland class had fantastic fun learning all about heating and melting during their Science lessons this week.
Greece and Chile class had their ‘Dragon’s Den’ auditions during the week and some of the new product ideas were brilliant. I think the judges probably had a hard time making their selections. Well done to everyone who participated.
Some of our students from 6th class were very luckily given the opportunity to visit a neighbouring school, Stewarts, where they buddied up with some of the students, played games and even learned some sign language. The staff at the school praised their fantastic manners and great attitude. Well done to all involved.
Junior Infants took a trip to the DSPCA this week where they got to see lots of dogs and cats. They also made a contribution to this very worthy cause.
GAA training started for Senior Infants and yesterday they started learning how to use a hurling stick.
We are delighted to see so many children cycling to school every day. Outside at the front of the building can get very busy so this month we are going to work on dismounting our bikes at the second set of gates and walking our bike into the school the rest of the way. In the afternoons we will walk our bikes out to the first set of gates and cycle from there. This is just to ensure that we are all as safe as possible on the school grounds.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the school is closed on Friday 1st of February for all students. The teachers will be in working on the primary language curriculum.
Thank you for taking the time to read The Principal’s News this week and I hope you will check in again next Friday. Have a lovely weekend.
