Lucan East ETNS is aware of news reporting regarding structural investigations to be carried out on schools built by the construction firm Western Building Systems (WBS). Lucan East ETNS has been in communication with the Educate Together national office and the Department of Education (DES) on the matter.
We understand that, following a series of Fire Audit Reports commissioned by the DES in 2017 and 2018, the process is now moving to a new phase and the Department is to carry out further investigations on some schools. From an RTÉ news report, we understand further investigations are to be carried out in a list of 31 named schools. This list includes Lucan East ETNS.
The Educate Together national office has contacted the Department to seek more information as a matter of urgency. Educate Together has sought clarity on:
· when structural assessments are to take place in affected Educate Together schools
· what communications will be going to the affected schools from the DES moving forward
It is important to state that neither Lucan East ETNS nor the Educate Together national office has been given any information that indicates any immediate danger to persons in the Lucan East ETNS school building, nor any reason why affected schools should not operate as normal.
Educate Together has met with Department officials today and will communicate any further information as it emerges. We understand that this situation is moving quickly and Lucan East ETNS will endeavour to communicate with the parent body and school community as soon as new information becomes available.
