There are three exciting new initiatives starting in the school over the coming months.
Food Dudes is a programme which teaches the children about healthy eating. It is run by An Bord Bia ( the Irish food agency) and is endorsed by the department of education and skills. The children will receive a portion of fruit and vegetables for 16 days starting on the 5th of march. They will have an opportunity to try fruit and vegetables and there will also a big push on healthy eating in the school. This scheme is completely free and we are very lucky to be chosen to take part.
We are also going to be starting a Walk on Wednesdays scheme to encourage all our families to walk to school. The children today at assembly came up with different reasons why you should walk to school. They were:
1. To stay fit and healthy
2. To protect the environment
3. So you can have a nice chat with your mum/dad/minder on the way to school.
We have also come up with a way for families that live farther away can take part. PARK AND STRIDE means that you park some distance away from the school and walk. This means that everybody can get involved.
Our time banking initiative will soon be starting where you will be able to exchange credits you have gained volunteering in the school for vouchers for play zone and money off extra curricular activities. The PTA are also organising a book club to help make buying school books easier for us all. Get involved in the PTA and make new friends as well as making the school a more vibrant place.
Have a great weekend everybody and spread the word about subscribing to our enewsletter so that everybody can hear about all the great work that is going on throughout our school community.
