On Friday the school was very proud to raise its first Green School Flag. An Taisce awarded the school with this flag for our work in the area of waste management. Over the past few years all of the children have been learning about and actively getting involved in reducing, reusing and recycling with great results. We hugely reduced the amount of waste going to landfill and increased the amount of waste that we were sending for recycling. With the help of the teachers the children also learned how to reuse items as much as possible. It was a great moment for Lucan East to see our first Green Flag flying at the entrance to our school.
In September the school will begin its journey to gain our second Green Flag, the flag for Energy Conservation. Under this topic the children will learn how to use energy efficiently and will bring home practical tips on how everybody at home can save energy also. It is great to feel that we are playing our part in helping to protect our environment. Please check back in September to see how we are getting on.
