Soccer Stars!
We start this week with the wonderful news of our senior soccer teams. On Wednesday the girls team progressed to the next round of their FAI tournament with a great win in Ballyowen. The girls have a great team ethic and are very supportive of everyone on the panel. On Thursday morning the senior boys travelled to Monkstown for their match against Monkstown Educate Together. It was a very tight match that ended level after extra time. Five boys volunteered to take a penalty and all were dispatched with aplomb. Roll on the next round and well done to all of the boys, girls and their managing teachers.
Cricket Leinster
On Wednesday morning a team of 3rd class children travelled to Corkagh Park to play in a Cricket Leinster blitz. Teams were made up of 8 players. Both teams finished on the podium but more importantly all of the children gained valuable experience of another sport and thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the process. We’re already looking forward to more coaching and games in the future.
School Book Scheme
From September 2023 schoolbooks, workbooks and copybooks will be provided to the children free of charge by the school as we are receiving funding from the Government to cover the costs. There will still be some school costs, which you will be informed of in due course.
New Benches
Our new benches were delivered this week. We would like to thank the Parents’ Association for their fundraising efforts over the last few months, which enabled us to purchase these sturdy benches made from recycled plastic. Similarly, we’d like to thank the school community who have supported the events, which have been organised the Parents’ Association. We hope that these benches will last for many years to come.
Crazy Hair Day
We had a great day at school today with the Student Council organising a ‘Crazy Hair Day’. Some of us struggled to make our hair crazy and had to improvise with wigs. Check out the photos on our Twitter page.
Language of the Month – Polish
Each month we introduce a new language of the month. Polish is the ‘Language of the Month’ for May. Thank you to Julia, Artur and Michalina who introduced us to our new phrases during assembly this morning. They did a fantastic job. The phrases we will be learning are:
Hello – Cześć
Thank You – Dziękuję
Goodbye – do widzenia
In-service Day
The teaching staff will be having in-service for the the new language curriculum on Friday, May 26th. The children will be free on this day.
School Tours
Your child/children will be going on their school tour between now and the end of term. At Tuesday’s Board of Management meeting the Board discussed the rising cost of living and the price of this year’s school tours. As a result, the Board have decided to make a contribution towards the cost of all school tours, in an effort to alleviate some of this financial pressure. Your class teacher will be in touch soon with details of the tour, which can be paid for using the Aladdin app.
Leaving Next Year?
We would ask that you let us know immediately if your child is leaving the school this year. It is important that we know in order to ensure that we offer places to children who are currently looking for schools. Please email Lesley at secretary@lucaneastet.ie
David Saunders
Our school community was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former colleague and friend, David Saunders. David taught in Lucan East Educate Together from 2012 to 2015. David had an amazing way with the children and his legacy is still felt in the school. His wonderful personality and his kind and caring nature will remain in our memories forever. May he rest in peace.
Simon.
