Health and Wellbeing Week
What a week it has been in Lucan East ETNS with the arrival of Health and Wellbeing week on Monday. We had lots of nice activities, which the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed.
Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd classes enjoyed yoga sessions in the hall on Monday. On Tuesday, we had dodgeball for 3rd – 6th, which always proves to be very popular with the children. We had a fantastically energetic drumming workshop on Wednesday and Thursday. Some classes incorporate some themed homework. For example, Mindful Monday and Thoughtful Tuesday.
Today, we are giving the children a few minutes extra play time and they will be sampling some healthy fruit, which was delivered to classes by members of our Parents’ Association. A big thanks to Múinteoir Jo and all of the teachers and parents who organised and helped out with this very important week.
Getting ready for Spring
Planting of bulbs is continuing on the school grounds. Earlier this year we planted hundreds of daffodil bulbs, which we are looking forward to seeing over the coming weeks. Many of the colourful tubs around the school already have shoots appearing. This week classes began planting more bulbs in the flower beds on the left-hand side of the school building. Each class level has a bed and we’re sure to have a wonderful display of colour in the run up to the summer.
Jenny Mosley
Two members of the team recently attended a workshop with Jenny Mosley. She is the leading pioneer of positive breaktimes. She highlights a range of ideas on how to motivate children to play well together and for each child to find activities to suit them best so yards and relationships and the quality of play can be transformed. We are going to try some of the zones in our basketball court yards to see if the children enjoy them. These may include skipping and art zones, for example.
Barnardos
As you know, we celebrated Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, February 7th. Following on from this we further highlighted the importance of Internet Safety by inviting Barnardos in for 2 days of talks with all classes from 3rd to 6th. We would recommend discussing the topic with your child and hopefully they will have some invaluable insights to share with you.
Other News
In addition to the fantastic Health and Wellbeing Week we are continuing with our cycling classes in 5th class and both classes enjoyed some fine weather for their lessons this week. Maths for Fun has begun in senior infants and it was great to see so many parents arrive to help and participate in their child’s learning. Thanks to the Parents’ Association and DJ Niall for the wonderful Valentine’s Disco, which was a huge hit last week. Garden Craft Classes have also started on Mondays at 11am for parents. Please contact Niall at hscl@lucaneastet.ie should you wish to attend.
Have a lovely weekend,
Simon.
