Welcome Back
It was great to welcome everyone back last Thursday and Friday and we have enjoyed our first full week back. We hope that all of our families enjoyed the break and got to spend time with family and friends.
I would like to thank all of the members of our school community who managed to visit the school during the winter shows. It was wonderful to have everyone back in the school and what a show the boys and girls of Lucan East put on for you all. We had singing, dancing, jokes and music. It is fantastic to for you all to see this side of your child’s learning and development and we were so proud of everyone over the two days. I would also like to thank the staff for the effort that they put in to preparing the children for the shows.
I would also like to thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation during the recent remedial works on the fencing in the basketball courts.
Junior Infant Parent-Teacher Meetings
Junior infant parent-teacher meetings will be taking place in early February and Jo and Rebecca will be in touch about dates and times for those meetings in the coming weeks.
SEAI Workshop
We had an SEAI workshop in school this week in senior infants and 1st class. We looked at different types of transport and how we can save energy by using public transport or walking to school. The children explored how energy is stored. Using vitamin tablets, we explored how energy is stored in a small space and when the energy is released there were lids popping and flying all over the classroom! (1st Class Malaysia)
After School Clubs
After School Clubs for term 2 will be starting again soon. Please keep an eye on the school doors for a list of clubs for this term. All information to follow later today or early next week.
Assemblies
We had our first assembly of 2023 last Friday when we discussed ‘Safety at School’. Last term we conducted a survey with the children where we tried to ascertain how they felt about safety in the school. We discussed the results of this survey in terms of who you could speak to if you didn’t feel safe at school. We also spoke about bullying and the importance of feeling safe at school. This term we will be using the Stay Safe Programme to further develop some of these topics.
Today’s assembly included the winners from last term’s Science competition. Well done to everyone who participated and a special mention for the prize winners. Congratulations to Deetya, Maryam, Marco, Darsh, Sana and Steven!
