Seachtain na Gaeilge
Last week we celebrated Irish Week (Seachtain na Gaeilge) throughout the school. We had a wonderful array of activities throughout the week and the children really enjoyed the week. Monday kicked off with Céilí dancing in the hall for most of the day. Many of the classes got to experience Irish dances with Maria and Elaine. There was a great atmosphere in the hall. Monday also saw the start of the art (ealaín) competition where the children had to create artwork based on old Irish sayings (seanfhocail). The Seachtain na Gaeilge Shop (Siopa) was also busy as it began its rounds through the classes. The children purchased their items using Irish phrases that they had learned in their classes.
Tuesday and Wednesday had teachers reading stories in Irish and we had sport activities through the medium of Irish too. Once again the hall was booked for the day for yoga for the children. The fun didn’t stop there as we had two fantastic assemblies on Thursday where all classes came together, sang the national anthem (Amhrán na bhFiann), listened to the list of ‘Irish Speakers of the Week’ (Gaeilgeoirí na Seachtaine) and then we had some brilliant performances from the classes, which you can check out on our Twitter page. It was a fitting end to a wonderful week in school.
Bake Sale
Every year our two 6th classes host a bake sale for all of the other students in the school. The funds raised are shared between their charity of choice and their graduation. We had an incredible atmosphere in the school on Wednesday when the bake sale took place. Each class had a turn to visit the sale and many delicious treats were enjoyed. We were all so incredibly proud and thankful of the efforts of all of the boys and girls in 6th class and thank you to all of their families for helping out with the baking. A huge thanks also goes to the students in Ghana class who sold drinks on the day. It was a record year for fundraising from the Bake Sale and the Irish Cancer Society will benefit greatly from their donation of over €700. Thanks to all of the staff members who contributed to what was a wonderful occasion in Lucan East ETNS.

Show Racism the Red Card
Racism the Red Card (SRTRC) was founded in the UK in 1995 by footballer Shaka Hislop, and has been operating in Ireland since 2007. The Immigrant Council have taken over the Show Racism the Red Card initiative and are planning its annual Wear Red Day for March 31st this year. We discussed it at assembly today and will be looking at lessons this week. We are also asking everyone to wear red next Friday, March 31st, to highlight its importance.
