Science Week
Science Week will be running in Ireland from 13th – 20th November 2022. This exciting week has been running every year since 1995. The week-long event is supported by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). This foundation tries to promote the benefits of learning about science. The children are already looking forward to some of the exciting activities that their teachers have planned. Fiji class have been preparing for Science Week by researching, designing and making insulated flasks. The boys and girls tested to see which one would keep the water warmest over a period of time. Algeria Class have been getting ready too by experimenting with light.
Halloween Disco
There was a great turnout for this year’s Halloween Disco. Again, it was another example of some of the things that we have missed in Lucan East. DJ Niall and the Parents’ Association were very busy with requests for music and the shop and we’d like to thank them for looking after this very popular event. Thanks also to the Student Council who were involved in decorating the hall for the day.
Student Council
Student voice is an integral part of Educate Together and we are so lucky to have so many children who are keen to share their ideas and get involved in some of the decisions in their school. The Council examines areas such as: school rules, behaviour and discipline, green issues, health and safety, homework, friendship, fundraising and school equipment.
The Council then has a role in organising school celebrations, cake sales, special occasions/special presentations and implementing new initiatives.
This week we have had many students getting involved by making speeches to their respective classes in terms of their vision for the student council. Voting will be held today to elect a new boy and a new girl as Student Council reps in each class.
Stair Decals
We recently had delivery of some colourful decals for our stairs. We have a nice mixture of book titles, Maths and Gaeilge. Not only do they provide some added colour to the stairways but they are another teaching and learning tool for the teachers and children. Have a look at some of the photos below.

Parent-Teacher Meetings
As you will know from our previous email parent-teacher meetings are taking place on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd November for senior infants to 6th class. Parent-teacher meetings for junior infants will take place in February. Each meeting lasts 10 minutes and in in the interest of fairness teachers will need to adhere to this time slot in so far as is possible. Here is a quick guide to book a slot on the Aladdin app: click here.
Have a lovely weekend,
Simon.
