Science Fun
We had a fantastic Science Week 2022 in school. Many of the classes have been conducting very interesting experiments and investigations. Finland and Fiji classes had the delicate task of creating bubbles within bubbles. Germany and Cuba classes were looking at unexpected forces and they also made some hoop gliders. Malaysia class had a great time with their various experiments that involved food dye, skittles and more. Scotland class even interviewed a tree for Science Week. They also made junk art rockets, 3D marshmallow structures and playdough from scratch. What a busy week! Check out Twitter for many more photos of the week.
Winter Shows
Our winter shows have been arranged for the dates and times below. This year we are changing the format slightly and classes will be performing songs and poems, for your enjoyment. We hope that you can make it to share this special day with us. The children will be inviting you to their respective shows over the coming weeks.
Monday, December 19th: 9.15am-10.30am (Junior & Senior Infants), 11.05am – 12.30pm (5th & 6th)
Tuesday, December 20th: 9.15am-10.30am (1st & 2nd), 11.05am – 12.30pm (3rd & 4th)
Junior Translators & Language of the Month
We are so lucky to have so many people who speak different languages in the school. Many of the children are keen to share their knowledge so we have junior translators who can help out with other children in different classes who speak the same language. This is a real asset in the junior classes.
We also have a ‘Language of the Month’ where children share some of their knowledge with the school community. Last week at assembly Christian and Delia introduced us to some Romanian phrases, which we can practice throughout the month. (Salut – hello, pa – goodbye, thank you – mulțumesc)
Parent-Teacher Meetings
It was great to have everyone back in for parent-teacher meetings this week. We were delighted that people got to see the work that the children have been doing in their classes. Thank you to everyone for coming in to discuss your child’s progress. We are looking forward to having you in for some fun activities during the year.
Daffodil Planting
The boys and girls have been very busy planting hundreds of daffodils this week. We have some very keen gardeners among the students and they were happy to get their hands dirty when planting the bulbs. We are hoping to have beautiful daffodils around the school grounds come Spring time.
Primary Language Curriculum Training
The school will close for a half day on Friday the 16th December due to teacher training on the Primary Language Curriculum. Home times will be as follows: Infants 11.40am, 1st- 6th 11.50am. A reminder will be sent out closer to the date.
Cuba Class Sets a Challenge
Cuba (4th) class have been working hard on their maths this week. They really had to put their heads together to work out some of these clues. See if you can work them out too.
